Abstract: | The tasks and objectives of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) are to provide information on goods and products. It has already been established for years in the areas of logistics and trading and can no longer be ignored by the German health care sector, which shall be the backdrop of this investigation. Some German hospitals have already discovered the capabilities of RFID. Improvements in quality, safety and reductions in risk, cost and time are aspects and areas where improvements are achievable. Privacy protection, legal restraints, and the personal rights of patients and staff members are just a few aspects which make the heath care sector a sensitive field for the implementation of RFID. To consider comprehensively the process of implementation of RFID in a hospital it is important to minimize risk and to consider the special requirements of the health care sector. A practical, usable process model has to be devised. Practical experiences in the implementation and configuration of RFID and interviews with Chief Technology Officers (CTO) of German hospitals have been the basis for the model explained here. |
