| dc.description.abstract | After Donald Trumps inauguration speech, the Dutch satirical show Zondag Met Lubach produced the first version of the “America first, XY second” videos. This set off a wave all over Europe and eventually worldwide, with videos mocking the newly-elected American president. In 27 European countries, national adaptations of the Dutch satirical video were produced, creating a form of pan-European discourse hardly seen in regular journalism or other forms of public discourse. However, a classification and analysis of the satirical techniques most often used in the videos were the ones based on humor rather than critique. While the series of videos all over Europe and the world showed an impressive act of international cooperation in political satire, it must be seen as referring to the lowest common denominator: Humor against a common target, rather than a unifying critique of a new political style and perspective. | de_CH |
