Translation studies has seen a recent interest in connections between ecology and translation and interpreting (T&I) that can facilitate research into T&I. The communicative ecology model can help improve our interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge of the interactive dynamics between T&I and their organizational settings . The “Communication Constitutes Organization” (CCO) model is a ready framework for such research, which indicates that translators’ agency can be a valuable organizational asset, but one whose impact is restricted by self-concept and process-related issues. Research needs to address the ecological dimensions of T&I. Methods such as those of translatorial linguistic ethnography and ethnographic action research can expose the rich layers of the communicative ecologies where translators and interpreters work, and act on the findings to the benefit of all stakeholders.de_CH
