Abstract: Introduction: Stress and stress-related health problems are a common problem of today’s societies. As stress can be harmful for both physical and mental health, clients often seek help in occupational therapists’ (OT) practice. Traditional face-to-face interventions can reduce stress and relieve symptoms. However, the global Covid-19 pandemic not only increased stress for many but also restricted OTs in numerous countries to work face-to-face with their clients. Therefore, alternative ways in the treatment of stress and stress related symptoms are needed. Objective: The aim was to identify effective web- and app-based interventions for reduction of mental and physical symptoms of stress and to explore their use in OT practice. Approach: A systematic literature review was conducted in PubMed, PsycINFO and CINAHL Complete. Articles were included when published between 2015 to 2020, focusing on healthy adults and showing effectiveness in reducing stress or/and stress-related symptoms. Results: 28 articles comprising 20 effective products (13 web-based, 7 apps) were found. Most products are course-like sessions on different topics and exercises using methods such as psychoeducation, education on stress, cognitive restructuring, emotional regulation, problem solving, goal setting, breathing, mindfulness techniques, meditation, and relaxation. Also, most products use more than one technique and mixed material such as text messages, videos, text, and audio information. Products often use methods for user retention, such as integration in daily routine, future planning, or reminders. Conclusion: There are several effective products that can support treatment of stress and stress related symptoms to support or complement treatment in OT practice.
