Non-medical support services in many hospitals are viewed from the perspective of the optimal costbenefit ratio. They are considered to be most effective when medical core service providers and patients are satisfied. However, there is more to it. Providing smart services in a hospital is a very complex endeavour and thanks to digitalization, non-medical support services can be turned into a truly smart and resource-optimized service provision. Cleaning routines, meal provision, safety & security and logistics based on smart technology are all expected to experience a boom. In Switzerland, the introduction of these technologies continues to present challenges. This paper demonstrates not only the specific role of non-medical support services but emphasizes the potentials for more smartness, highlights requirements, discusses the stakeholder involvement and stresses digital culture as the key aspect to introducing more smartness in Facility Management in the healthcare industry.de_CH
