Abstract: | A combination of derivatization with charged substrates and electrospray-ionization mass spectrometry was used to det. the active species in a polymn. reaction. The obsd. species by mass spectrometry corresponds to the resting state of the catalyst. Data for the ring-opening metathesis polymn. (ROMP) of norbornene using (Cy3P)2Cl2Ru=CHPh (Cy = cyclohexyl) was used to illustrate the method. |
