Abstract:	This chapter provides an overview of the methods applied in economic evaluations of public health interventions and the main findings in recent research in several public-health domains. Section 2 (Kap. 7.2) gives an overview of the important challenges in the measurement of the effectiveness of public health interventions. Section 3 (Kap. 7.3) then illustrates how economic costs and health benefits are employed in different types of health economic evaluations, and how to interpret the results of these evaluations. Section 4 (Kap. 7.4) presents the recent empirical evidence on cost-saving and cost-effective prevention strategies in the field of smoking, substance abuse disorders, physical inactivity and nutrition. Section 5 (Kap. 7.5) concludes and highlights the key messages of the chapter.
