Like many cloud computing offerings, “Integration Platform as a Service” (iPaaS) are becoming increasingly popular. Already established in various industries, they still represent a minority in the Swiss healthcare industry, especially in hospitals. This is despite the fact that data management and data integration of administrative and medical data are essential to successfully drive digitization in hospitals. However, it quickly becomes apparent that the requirements and prerequisites for the use of iPaaS in the sensitive healthcare data area are very comprehensive and include potential challenges. In the course of the Innosuisse Flagship Multi-Research Project SHIFT, this issue has been addressed and now the first phase with the requirements for an iPaaS solution has been developed. In this paper, based on the situation of Swiss hospitals, the individual general, legal, organizational, technical and special requirements are addressed, which are summarized graphically at the end. This can serve as initial support for concrete fields of action in practice and new scientific questions regarding the use of iPaaS in the Swiss healthcare industry. It becomes apparent that both a systemic and interdisciplinary approach is needed to enable the secure operation of healthcare data in the public cloud in Swiss hospitals.de_CH
