Abstract: The goal of this work is the development of a wooden floor system reaching very good sound insulation parameters even without a large number of different layers. A new approach is proposed with a walking surface floating freely on a layer of granular material, which is known to have a strong internal friction. The floor system presented here is characterised by a high degree of prefabrication, low production costs and simple installation at the construction site. It attains a standard impact noise level of 60 dB, with carpet even clearly below 50 dB. The main characteristics and their impact are presented.
