This paper presents a one-dimensional model of the PEM fuel cell cathode for analysing current interrupt (CI) measurements. The porous gas diffusion electrode is assumed to consist of a network of dispersed catalyst (Pt/C) forming spherically shaped agglomerated zones that are filled with electrolyte. The current interrupt technique is used to separate different processes on different time scales that are responsible for the fuel cell dynamic. By means of this agglomerate model the influence of model parameters like double-layer capacity, Tafel slope, diffusion coefficient and ohmic resistance on the potential relaxation are investigated and explanations are given for the characteristic dynamic behaviour of a CI measurement.de_CH
