Purpose: Changes related to the information age or Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) have led to new opportunities, which not only influence a single plant but the internationally distributed manufacturing network. This research highlights changes related to manufacturing network coordination. Design/Methodology/Approach: Based on a single case study, the paper at hand provides insights how IIoT influences the coordination of internationally distributed plants. Data gathering is based on twelve group interviews with seven employees of the general management board. Findings: The derived results show that IIoT initiatives consist of five central dimensions (digital technologies, connectivity, data, capabilities and management), which are highly interrelated and need to be harmonized. In order to exploit the full potential of IIoT, headquarters needs to adapt its network coordination mechanism to a high level of standardisation with little autonomy provided to the plants. Originality/Value: The research provides insights into how manufacturing network coordination needs to be adapted in order to exploit the potential of IIoT initiatives. In addition, it is shown which enablers are relevant to implement IIoT initiatives.de_CH
