Abstract: In this paper, the darknet is considered for the first time as a place of public social discourse with a linguistic focus. Against the background of the widespread notion of the darknet as a place of taboo, the question is explored which topics are discussed in an open German-speaking forum. For this purpose, 'taboo' is discussed, which is not understood as a concept of analysis, but as an object of investigation. It is proposed to use the Foucauldian concept of heterotopia as a perspective on spaces and sayabilities. In this way, corpus linguistic results show a wide range of topics, including criminal content and content that cannot be said in the de-anonymous public sphere. The concept of heterotopia is helpful in understanding the darknet as a counter-model to the non-anonymous public sphere.
