| Abstract: | Low back pain is the greatest catastrophe of modern-day medicine. It causes the highest health care costs, the greatest number of sickness absences and the most daily disruption to people's lives. This article reviews the current guidelines for low back pain. The main specific diagnoses are radiculopathy, inflammatory back pain and spinal stenosis, and they account for about ten per cent of all low back pain. Instead of non-specific back pain, we should talk about benign back pain. Red flags are common, but it is extremely rare that back pain is caused by a serious disease. An anamnesis Interview enables asking clients about psychosocial factors, but standardised questionnaires are also useful. Determining the degree of disability experienced by the client in their everyday life is important. Benign back pain can be divided into four different categories: pain radiating to the lower limbs, movement impairment, movement control impairment, and non-primary spinal pain originating from the pelvis. |
