Abstract: Introduction: Participation restrictions of children and youth with chronic conditions also influence their typically developing siblings. Some studies investigate sibling factors (e.g., siblings’ adjustment or support needs) but comprehensive knowledge on their participation in daily life is scarce. This scoping review aims to provide an overview of currently available evidence on siblings’ participation. Methods: The scoping review was conducted following the JBI methodology for scoping reviews. Search databases involve health (MEDLINE, CINAHL, AMED), psychology (PsycInfo), education, and social sciences (ERIC) oriented databases. The final scoping review includes published peer-reviewed studies in English and German focusing on siblings of children with chronic conditions (population) and their participation (concept) in daily life situations in childhood or youth (such as home, community, and school) (context). We excluded other information sources and studies not related to the described population, concept, and context. The study selection process was conducted in collaboration between reviewers using © 2023 Covidence systematic review software. Results: Searches were conducted between August and September 2023 and resulted in 6829 studies. Insights from the full text screening and data extraction will be presented including general topics and research approaches in use in relation to siblings’ participation. Discussion: The implications and relevance of this scoping review will be discussed in the context of its methodology and the concept of participation. Knowledge on siblings’ participation should inform research and practice on most relevant aspects, challenges, and potentials.
