Abstract: Drawing on a 90,000 word corpus of in-depth interviews with 10 experienced professional conference interpreters and in adaptation, and by extension, of Kalina's description of the overall interpreting process dimensions, a process- and experience-based model of interpreter competence is presented, detailing the pre-, peri-, in-, post-, and para-process subskills as reported by the professionals.
